The sick poster adds: “Its construction began in the year 1163 and ended in 1345. It's time to say goodbye to your oratory polytheism.”

Meanwhile, Christian Malard, managing editor of public service

broadcaster France3, linked the fire to a string of previous attacks on French churches.

He told the Israeli channel i24news Monday night: “These last few months in Paris, churches have been the target, so we know that terrorists organisations, even like ISIS, could be behind it — might be.”

And a former adviser on extremism to Prime Minister David Cameron also suggested the huge fire could have been an attack of some sort.

Maajid Nawaz wrote: “I can’t help but thinking that the tragedy and trauma of witnessing Notre Dame burning... is a sign of the inflammatory times we live in.”
